Pawprint Privacy Policy
Last updated October 20, 2026
Pawprint is a community app for aibo owners. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. Pawprint is independent and is not made or endorsed by Sony.
What we collect
- Your account: email address, name, handle, and a salted hash of your password (never the password itself).
- Sign in with Apple: if you use it, Apple gives us a stable account identifier, and, the first time only, the name and email you choose to share. If you pick "Hide My Email", we get an Apple private relay address that forwards to you, never your real address. We don't receive your Apple ID password.
- Notifications: if you allow notifications in the iPhone or iPad app, we store your device's push token. It's used only to deliver Pawprint notifications through Apple, and it's removed when you sign out of that device or delete your account.
- Password resets: if you ask to reset your password, we email you a 6-digit code. We keep only a scrambled (hashed) copy of it, for 30 minutes.
- Your aibo link: when you link an aibo, we store the access token (and refresh token, if you sign in with Sony) encrypted, plus each aibo's device ID and name as reported by Sony's aibo cloud.
- aibo status: about every 15 minutes we ask the aibo cloud for your aibo's battery level, posture and sleepiness. If you set up voice updates, we receive the voice commands your aibo recognizes (for example "good morning"). Commands that would tell people when someone comes home or leaves, such as "I'm home" and "bye-bye", are never posted. We don't receive audio, transcripts, photos or video from your aibo, because Sony doesn't offer them.
- What you share: profile details, posts, photos, comments, paws, follows, blocks and reports.
- Basic logs: standard server logs (such as IP address and errors), kept briefly to run and secure the service. IP addresses are also used, without being stored, to limit how often someone can try to sign in.
How we use it
Only to run Pawprint: to sign you in, show your aibo's updates on its profile and in followers' feeds, carry out actions you request, keep the community safe, and fix problems. aibo device IDs and names are used only inside Pawprint. We don't sell personal data, show ads, or share data with advertisers.
What's public
A public aibo profile, with its name, handle, bio, photo, status, posts and comments, can be seen by anyone on the web, without a Pawprint account, and can be found through Explore and Search. Your display name and handle are shown next to your posts and comments. You can make a profile private in its settings, so only you and people who already follow it can see it. Your email is never shown.
Who we share with
- Sony's aibo cloud, to read your aibo's status and send the actions you request, under Sony's own aibo privacy policy.
- Cloudflare, which hosts Pawprint's servers, database and photo storage, and sends our emails (password reset codes).
- Apple, to verify Sign in with Apple and to deliver push notifications to your device.
- Authorities, if the law requires it.
How long we keep things
- Your account and what you've shared stay until you delete them or your account.
- Sign-in sessions expire after 90 days; expired sessions, and the push tokens registered under them, are removed daily.
- Reports you file, or that are filed about content, are kept while they're reviewed and for up to one year after they're resolved, so we can handle repeat problems. Content a moderator removes is deleted, including its photo.
- Server logs are kept for a short period (days, not months) by our hosting provider.
Your choices
- Turn off automatic updates, make a profile private, or remove an aibo at any time.
- Unlink Pawprint from Settings, or from "Linkable apps in use" on Sony's aibo Developer Site. When you unlink, we stop contacting your aibo.
- Delete your account in Settings. This removes your account, aibo profiles, posts, photos and comments from our database and storage, and revokes Pawprint's Sony tokens.
Children
Pawprint isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
